The Department of Education (DepEd) will begin distributing more than 172,000 MacBook Neo laptops to qualified public school teachers and administrative personnel nationwide in November 2026 as part of its efforts to expand digital learning resources.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the department has scheduled the distribution of 172,654 units to provide educators with reliable equipment for their teaching and administrative responsibilities.
Angara said the procurement aims to ease the financial burden on teachers who have long relied on personal laptops or outdated devices to prepare lessons and perform other school-related tasks.
“For the longest time, our teachers have carried the heavy personal burden of buying their own laptops or maintaining outdated equipment just to keep up with lesson plans. Under the vision of President Marcos, we are changing the narrative,” Angara said.
He also highlighted the involvement of Apple in the procurement, saying the laptops would be supported by extended warranties and training for beneficiaries.
“We welcome Apple’s participation in this procurement to bring MacBook Neo to our teachers. It isn’t just about handing out world-class hardware with five-year warranties; it’s about giving our educators the best tools, backed by robust training so they can focus on what matters most: teaching our children,” he added.
The laptop procurement is being implemented under the DepEd Computerization Program, which has awarded contracts for a total of 231,725 laptops for teachers across the country.
Of this number, 169,008 are MacBook Neo units, while 62,717 are Windows-based laptops. The procurement also covers 3,646 MacBook Neo units intended for administrative officers.
DepEd said the MacBook Neo units were acquired at P6,900 below the suggested retail price of the base model.
The devices also carry a five-year warranty, marking the first time the department has secured such an extended coverage period for its laptop procurement.
The longer warranty exceeds the standard one-year coverage offered under regular retail purchases, giving the government additional protection and support while keeping acquisition costs below the laptops’ suggested retail price.
The distribution forms part of the department’s broader push to strengthen digital infrastructure and provide public school personnel with technology to support classroom instruction and administrative work.
