American, Filipina Wife Found Shot Dead Inside Dumaguete Home

An American national and his Filipina wife were found dead inside their residence in Barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City, early Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in an incident police are investigating as a possible robbery.

The Dumaguete City Police Station received a report through the 911 hotline at around 6:08 a.m. regarding a shooting inside the couple’s home.

Responding officers found the victims inside the residence with gunshot wounds and blood on their bodies.

According to police, the couple’s caretaker told investigators that he woke up at around 4 a.m. and saw armed, unidentified individuals inside the house. Authorities have not released further information about the identities of the suspects as the investigation continues.

An initial examination of the residence indicated that personal belongings and valuables may have been taken. Police estimated that about P60,000 in cash, electronic devices, identification cards and other items were among those reported missing.

Investigators are still conducting an inventory of the victims’ belongings to determine the full extent of the losses.

Personnel from the Scene of the Crime Operations unit recovered spent shell casings, slugs and live ammunition from the residence. The evidence will undergo ballistic examination and cross-matching as investigators work to determine the type of firearm used and establish links to other possible cases.

Following the incident, the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO) formed a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) designated as “DUELL” to accelerate the investigation.

The task group includes personnel from the Provincial Intelligence Unit, Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Unit, Negros Oriental Forensic Unit and Dumaguete City Police Station.

The investigation is being conducted under the direction of newly appointed Negros Oriental police provincial director Police Col. Jonathan Abella.

“We deeply condemn this senseless and heinous act of violence. The creation of SITG ‘DUELL’ guarantees that all operational, tactical, and forensic resources of NOrPPO are dedicated to solving this case promptly. We will leave no stone unturned until the perpetrator is brought to justice,” Abella said.

Police investigators are reviewing available closed-circuit television footage in the area and interviewing witnesses who may have information about the movements of the suspects before and after the shooting.

Authorities are also collecting additional forensic evidence from the crime scene as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths and identify those responsible.

The NOrPPO has withheld additional details while investigators continue to verify information and gather evidence related to the case.
