Filipino gymnastics sensation Carlos Yulo once again made history after clinching the gold medal in the men’s vault at the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Saturday, October 25, 2025.

The 25-year-old Olympic double gold medalist dominated the vault final with an impressive average score of 14.866, narrowly edging out Artur Davtyan of Armenia (14.833) and Nazar Chepurnyi of Ukraine (14.483).

The victory marks Yulo’s second career world title in vault and his third World Championships gold medal overall.

Yulo came into the final as the heavy favorite, having led the qualifiers with a 14.750 average. He delivered on that expectation with two nearly flawless vaults that showcased both his technical mastery and composure under pressure.

Vaulting third in the lineup, Yulo executed a front handspring, double pike front half-out on his first attempt — a difficult vault that earned him a 15.200 total, including a 0.100 bonus and a 9.500 execution score after sticking the landing cleanly.

His second vault, a front handspring, front layout with two-and-a-half twists, was slightly less precise with a small shuffle on the landing, but still strong enough to earn a 14.533.

His two-vault average of 14.866 proved just enough to hold off a late challenge from Davtyan, who was the last to perform. Despite sticking both of his vaults, the Armenian veteran came up just short of Yulo’s total, settling for the silver.

“It looked like it could be an easy win for Yulo until Davtyan, last to go, stuck both of his vault,” reported event organizers. “In the end, he came up just short of what would have been a second world gold medal on the event.”

The result further cements Yulo’s position as one of the world’s premier gymnasts. He previously captured World Championship golds in floor exercise (2019) and vault (2021), as well as a bronze in the floor exercise at this year’s competition.

His bronze medal on Friday (October 24) and his vault gold the following day gave him two podium finishes at the 2025 World Championships — a strong statement of consistency and dominance across apparatuses.

Yulo’s latest win adds to an already historic résumé. At the Paris 2024 Olympics, he became the first Filipino athlete to win multiple Olympic gold medals, claiming victories in both the floor exercise and vault events.

That double triumph catapulted him to global stardom and inspired a new generation of Filipino gymnasts.

With his latest triumph in Jakarta, Yulo’s gold medal count at the World Championships now stands at three, solidifying his status as the most decorated Filipino gymnast in history.

His mastery of technique, explosiveness, and poise continues to distinguish him as one of the sport’s most consistent and creative athletes.

The Filipino champion’s success also reflects years of dedication and refinement, both in training and in mental preparation. As he looks ahead, Yulo is expected to continue competing in upcoming international events leading into the next Olympic cycle.

While no official statement from Yulo was immediately released after the final, his performance spoke volumes — a combination of power, precision, and artistry that left fans in awe and reaffirmed his position at the top of the gymnastics world.

With his Jakarta gold, Yulo not only reasserted his dominance on the vault but also underscored his continued pursuit of excellence on the world stage.
