Cebuana breakout star Kai Montinola is off to the shores of Motunui after capturing hearts on Pinoy Big Brother: Gen 11 (PBB).

Disney has officially announced that the young actress and singer will sing “Hangganan Ko,” the Filipino version of the iconic track “How Far I’ll Go,” for the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Moana.

Born and raised in Cebu City, Kai first earned national recognition as the “Singing Gwapa of Cebu” during PBB: Gen 11, where she finished as the season’s 4th placer.

Since leaving the famous Bahay ni Kuya, Kai has steadily built a name for herself as a singer, performer, and actress under Star Magic.

Taking on a localized Disney anthem places Kai in a highly exclusive circle of Philippine vocal royalty.

Over the years, Disney has entrusted only a select group of Filipino artists to reinterpret its beloved soundtracks for local audiences.

From Lea Salonga’s definitive Disney performances in the 1990s to Janella Salvador’s rendition of “How Far I’ll Go” for the original animated Moana in 2016.

The English version of the song, originally performed by Auliʻi Cravalho, is known for its demanding vocal range and emotional depth.

Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, “How Far I’ll Go” tells the story of a young woman torn between her responsibilities to her island and her desire to discover what lies beyond the horizon.

For Kai Montinola, lending her voice to “Hangganan Ko” not only highlights her vocal ability but also shines a light on Cebuano talent on one of the world’s biggest entertainment stages.

Watch her LIVE as she performs on July 12, 2026, at SM Seaside City Cebu, Mountain Wing Atrium.
