Police are investigating the death of a 26-year-old man who was found inside a rented residence in Barangay Basak San Nicolas on Wednesday evening.
The victim, identified only by the alias “Rey,” was a native of Manalongon, Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental. He was found by his siblings at around 7:20 p.m. on July 8 inside the house they were renting in Dapdap Extension, according to the initial investigation conducted by the Mambaling Police Station.
Investigators said the victim was found suspended using a shoelace that had been tied to a wooden bed. Family members reportedly discovered him and immediately attempted to provide assistance before authorities arrived at the scene.
When responding police officers reached the residence, the victim had already been taken down and laid on the bed. Members of the responding medical team later examined the victim and declared him dead.
Following the incident, personnel from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) processed the residence to document the scene and gather possible evidence that may assist investigators.
The victim’s remains were later brought to St. Francis Memorial Homes, where an autopsy will be conducted to help determine the exact cause and manner of death.
Police Captain Arnel Ancheta, chief of the Mambaling Police Station, said investigators are continuing to gather information related to the incident.
As part of the ongoing investigation, officers are tracing the victim’s recent movements and attempting to determine who was the last person known to have been with him before he was found dead.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the death, and investigators have yet to disclose whether they have identified any persons of interest.
Police emphasized that the case remains under active investigation and that all available evidence, including witness statements and forensic findings, will be carefully evaluated.
The results of the autopsy are expected to provide investigators with additional information that may help establish the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death.
Meanwhile, police continue to encourage anyone with information that could assist the investigation to coordinate with the Mambaling Police Station.
