Cebu Calling Podcast Kuya Magik
The Lapu-Lapu City Government continues its commitment to helping residents access affordable food through its ₱20 Rice Program.
As part of this ongoing initiative, the program is available at the Kadiwa Market located within the City Hall Sports Complex, providing residents with an opportunity to purchase rice at a significantly reduced price.
To ensure that more people can benefit from the program, the city has allocated 117 sacks of rice for distribution. Each individual is allowed to purchase a maximum of 10 kilograms, allowing a larger number of residents to avail themselves of the subsidized rice.
The program particularly aims to assist vulnerable sectors of society, including low-income families, displaced and retrenched workers, senior citizens, and other residents who may be facing financial difficulties.
The ₱20 Rice Program is one of the city government’s efforts to ease the burden of rising food costs and improve food security among its constituents.
Recognizing the importance of making staple goods accessible to everyone, the local government has taken active steps to sustain the initiative through financial subsidies and strategic partnerships.
One of its key partners is Food Terminal Inc. (FTI), which helps ensure a stable supply of affordable rice for the people of Lapu-Lapu City.
In addition to the Kadiwa Market at City Hall, the city government continues to implement its Barangay distribution schedule to bring the benefits of the program closer to various communities.
This allows residents from different areas of the city to access affordable rice without having to travel long distances. Furthermore, the ₱20 Rice Program is also available every Monday to Friday at Court 1 of the City Auditorium, giving residents another convenient option for purchasing rice.
The Kadiwa Market offers more than just affordable rice. Visitors can also find a wide variety of fresh and reasonably priced agricultural products, including vegetables and fruits sourced from local farmers.
Homemade products and other locally produced goods are likewise available, providing residents with access to quality products while supporting community-based enterprises.
Through these market activities, the city government also promotes the growth of local businesses and organizations.
Residents are encouraged to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), cooperatives, women-led organizations, and other local producers participating in the Kadiwa Market.
By purchasing from these vendors, consumers not only enjoy affordable products but also contribute to the development of the local economy.
The continued implementation of the ₱20 Rice Program reflects the Lapu-Lapu City Government’s dedication to improving the welfare of its residents.
Through subsidies, partnerships, and community-centered initiatives, the city strives to provide practical solutions to everyday challenges faced by many households.
As food prices continue to affect family budgets, programs such as this serve as an important source of relief and support for the people of Lapu-Lapu City.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the program and visit the Kadiwa Market or designated distribution sites to avail themselves of affordable rice and other locally sourced products.
